1 Peter 1:25

25 But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.

EXHORTATION:

This verse begins with a solemn declaration about the enduring nature of Holy Scripture. The adversative conjunction “but” at the start of the verse presents the enduring nature of Scripture in contrast to the withering nature of man expressed in the previous verse. Man and his glory perish like the flower of grass, but God’s Word abides and lives forever.

The enduring Word of God always remains unaffected by the ravages of time. It is ever fresh, pure, powerful and perfect. Its goodness will not cease. Its promises will not fail. Its wisdom will always be relevant and appropriate. Its truth shall remain steadfast and unfaltering.

The enduring Word of God declares the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The Word of God reveals Christ and His salvation unto us. Jesus said in John 5:39, “Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.” The Gospel of Jesus Christ that the apostles preached is the abiding truth of God’s Word. The Gospel that Jesus, the Son of God, died and rose again to save sinners is an age-old truth. This Gospel of Christ shall always remain as the only truth of salvation in all ages. Just as the Word of God, the Gospel that it reveals shall also remain forever fresh and powerful to grant salvation and hope to sinners.

Faithful preaching of God’s Word always reveals Christ the Saviour. Meticulous, precise exposition of God’s Word always exalts Christ and unveils the beauty and blessings of Christ to the hearers. Wherever the Word of God is faithfully preached, Christ shall be magnified.

Whenever preachers and churches fail to preach the Word faithfully, they distort its truth and “disfigure” the glorious Saviour of sinners. They drive hearers away from Christ. Unfaithful preachers of God’s Word are imposters of Satan who infiltrate the church to turn people away from Christ and His saving Gospel.

Only when faithful, devout and fervent preaching of God’s Word is present will hearers receive the blessings of Jesus Christ the Saviour. Let us be drawn to where God’s Word is esteemed very highly and proclaimed passionately, for it is there that we shall find the blessings of Christ’s eternal Gospel.
