Gethsemane Evangelism Outreach (GEO)

PrintE-mail

Written by Pr Andrew Koh Sunday, 21 February 2016

Before Jesus’ ascension to heaven, He gave His disciples the Great Commission in Matthew 28:18- 20 – “All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”

The Great Commission is given to the church to reach out to the unbelieving world. It is the duty of the believers to be witnesses for Christ by sharing the Gospel with people, welcoming them to the church and also teaching them to obey the commandments of God given in the Bible...

Gethsemane Children’s Ministry

PrintE-mail

Written by Kelvin Lim Sunday, 14 February 2016

Jesus said, “Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God” (Mark 10:14).

Gethsemane Children’s Ministry (GCM) was established with the dual purpose of meeting the spiritual needs of children within our church, and of reaching out to children outside the church. It seeks to educate believing children in the Word of God (Proverbs 22:6), and to evangelise unbelieving children with the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ...

Blessed LUNAR New Year

PrintE-mail

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 07 February 2016

On every occasion of joy, whether it be a new year or anniversary or birthday, we must humble ourselves and give glory and honour to the LORD. God’s people must remember the Lord’s goodness and consider how to render their gratitude to Him. We have a good pattern in the humble reflection of the psalmist in Psalm 116 - “What shall I render unto the LORD for all his benefits toward me? I will take the cup of salvation, and call upon the name of the LORD. I will pay my vows unto the LORD now in the presence of all his people” (vv.12-14).

We must readily and enthusiastically ascribe glory to our God, saying, “Thou crownest the year with thy goodness; and thy paths drop fatness” (Psalm 65:11). It is the LORD who preserves us and keeps us alive (Psalm 41:2). It is because of His compassion that we are delivered from all our troubles (Psalm 34:6). In His mercy, He healed our sicknesses (Psalm 30:2-3). With the outpouring of His grace, He has strengthened our weak frame and made us triumphant (2 Corinthians 2:14; 12:9). So let us praise Him in our hearts, and also let us declare His truth to all around us....

Gethsemane Youth Fellowship

PrintE-mail

Written by Prabhudas Koshy & Andrew Koh Sunday, 31 January 2016

The objective of the Gethsemane Youth Fellowship (GYF) is to reach out to the young people of our church with biblical truths that will help them keep out worldliness in their lives (cf. 1 John 2:15a). Worldliness is like leaven that “leaveneth the whole lump” (1 Corinthians 5:6b). Worldliness pervades every aspect of life and society. Young people are especially vulnerable to its evil influences.

According to the Scriptures, youths can be strengthened to be overcomers of the world and its wicked prince, the devil, through the Word of God. 1 John 2:14b says, “I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you...

Gethsemane Young Adults’ Fellowship

PrintE-mail

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 24 January 2016

GYAF is a ministry specially organised to reach out to the young adults of Gethsemane B-P Church who are in the age range of about 23-35 years. The very first time a young adults’ group was formed in Gethsemane BPC was in 1996. A few years later, when the young adults went on to form the Adults’ Fellowship (GAF), the young adults’ ministry was discontinued. Nevertheless, with more young adults in Gethsemane by the year 2007, we re-established GYAF...

Getting to Know Our Ministries

PrintE-mail

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 17 January 2016

In the past one year, especially in the recent months, the Lord has brought more worshippers to Gethsemane BPC. We warmly welcome all lovers of Christ and His Word to our beloved church. Our desire and prayer is that all worshippers will be ministered and will have opportunities to serve and thus be a blessing to others for the glory of Christ. By God’s grace, Gethsemane’s various church ministries and fellowship groups are well-placed to help all the worshippers to fulfil those goals. In the coming weeks, we would publish brief introductions and reports on the ongoing activities of the ministries and fellowship groups...

Gethsemane Young Mothers (GYM)

PrintE-mail

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 10 January 2016

Last year, several of our married young couples became parents and began a new phase in life with all its joys and challenges. Some of the mothers with infants began meeting together on a regular basis to pray and encourage one another. It is also their desire that more young mothers would benefit from such a gathering. This is indeed an excellent effort – one which the Pastor and the Session are most delighted to support and guide so that it may be better organized and more effective...

Youth Camp 2015 Testimonies

PrintE-mail

Sunday, 03 January 2016

(Continued from last week)

Dorcas Koshy (from Singapore)

Praise God for this youth camp; it was a rare opportunity of a lifetime to be so thoroughly girded with the armour of truth against the onslaughts of the wicked one. Every sermon was so filled with the richness of the truth of God’s Word that I will fail to recount all the wonderful lessons learnt out of His clear Word.

During the opening sermon on “Worldliness and its Dangers”, one of my greatest fears was addressed - the fear that I may return to the sins of my pre-conversion enslavement (it is not worthy to be called ‘life’). “For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ...

Youth Camp Testimonies

PrintE-mail

Sunday, 27 December 2015

Gethsemane B-P Churches of Singapore and the Philippines were guided by the grace of God to assemble their youths for a 5-day camp (21-25 Dec) in Cebu City, the Philippines. The main aim of this camp was to instruct and equip them to overcome the wicked devices of the world that war against their souls. The youths were taught from the Word of God by 8 preachers who came with prayerful preparation and a holy determination to persuade the youths with God’s Word to be overcomers of worldliness...

And on Earth Peace, Good Will toward Men

Timothy Tow
An extract from Bible Witness, Vol. 5, Issue 6 (Nov-Dec 2005)

The birth of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, by the virgin Mary in a manger was celebrated by the announcement of an angel and a big choir of heavenly host praising God in the Highest. So we hold special praise services during Christmas to commemorate His first coming.

To further celebrate this event, the angel extended the message of goodwill to the whole world, “And on earth peace, good will toward men” (Luke 2:14). Because the Saviour had now come, God the Father was so happy that He proclaimed an amnesty to us sinners, so that if we turn to Him, He would forgive all our sins and receive us back to Himself....

Nurturing Children and Youths

PrintE-mail

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 13 December 2015

In Gethsemane, much attention has been given in providing sound Gospel-oriented spiritual activities for children and youths since the early years of the church ministry. We continue to pay a lot of attention to providing biblical nurture to all of them. Under the Gethsemane Children’s Ministry, we regularly hold Junior Worship, Catechism Classes, Children’s Choir on Sundays, and have recently resumed our children’s programme on Saturdays (2nd, 3rd and 4th weeks). On the top of all these activities, the GCM committee also holds seminars for parents and teachers. Besides, we publish articles in the church weekly, Bible Witness for children, and air special programmes on Bible Witness Web Radio...

Pastor’s Letter from Bomet, Kenya

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 06 December 2015

My beloved Gethsemaneans,

By the rich mercies of God, both Carolyn and I finished our 10-day visit to our church’s Ethiopian mission stations. We spent most of our time in Alem Gena, where we have built a churchcum- GBI complex to advance the preaching of the Gospel in Ethiopia and the neighbouring countries. The work of the Lord here has been increasing, but certainly not without struggles within and without. We are very thankful to witness that the Lord has mercifully preserved and blessed the work....

“The Goodness of God in My Life”

PrintE-mail

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 29 November 2015

Today we publish a thanksgiving testimony written by a regular teenage worshipper of our church and participant of GYF. Joel Tan was born with severe hearing impairment and other medical issues. However, Joel (now a Sec 4 student) is profoundly thankful to God for His abundant grace that saved him and provided for all his needs through his loving parents. It is his caregiver, Sis Cecille Batrina (a Filipino member of our church), who brought him to our midst. Cecille was saved through our Filipino Fellowship’s evangelism efforts, and has been worshipping with us since Sept 2002. Her testimony and effort have led her ward, Joel, to come to Gethsemane and grow in the grace and knowledge of His Word. May Joel’s testimony stir our hearts to praise the Lord for His mercies towards all who trust Him; let us also pray for Joel to grow in the Lord. - Pastor...

Testimony of Calling

PrintE-mail

Written by Bro Sujith Samuel Saturday, 21 November 2015

I always had the desire to serve God. But at the same time, I was hesitant to serve God full-time as I was not sure of my calling. After my Pre-university studies, I thought about enrolling in a seminary in India, but ended up studying computer engineering in university. While studying there, I backslided. But God’s grace brought me back and I began to study the Bible seriously, trying hard to practise whatever it says to the letter. Moreover, I regularly listened to the preaching of various pastors through the internet. I also began to read books and articles relating to the Christian ministry. In the process, I became very legalistic and soon took pride in my socalled spiritual growth....

Steadying Our Anxious Hearts

PrintE-mail

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 15 November 2015

In recent days, from time to time, I have found my heart being very anxious about our church’s building fund. Our desire and prayers have been that God will provide 5 million dollars, the fund needed to purchase a suitable venue for our church’s activities. The need for such a place is very dire, knowing that such a place is urgently needed for next year’s activities. However, we have only been able to collect about $1.4 million to date. With just about 45 days left, anxiety does assail my heart...

Keep Christ Always In Your View

PrintE-mail

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 08 November 2015

Dear Christian, are you always looking unto Jesus? Living a life of sincere faith means that your eyes are constantly fixed on Christ. Looking to the Lord is an absolute necessity for a Christian to live triumphantly for the Lord’s glory. Let us consider two specific biblical exhortations to all Christians concerning keeping our eyes on Christ.

Run Your Race with Christ in View

The Christian life is a race in which God’s child is focused on Christ from the beginning to the end. Christians are exhorted to “run with patience the race that is set before us” by “looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith...

Do Not Be Unequally Yoked

Why Believers Should Not Date Unbelievers

Two weeks ago, I have written to warn all Christian youths about the dangers of the dating practices that are prevalent in our society. It is generally a relationship whereby two unmarried individuals pursue a relationship purely based on their carnal senses. The outcome is flirting and fornication; and most of such relationships do not culminate in marriage either. Christians should not follow this worldly and sensual kind of dating that is so widely accepted as the norm in our society.

Such dating habits in schools and colleges lure many Christian youths into intimate relationships with unbelievers. This is creating a serious spiritual situation in Christian homes and churches...

Why “Reformation Sunday”?

PrintE-mail

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 25 October 2015

Eery year, we set apart the last Sunday of October as “Reformation Sunday.” We take time to remember the persons and events that were part of the 16th Century Reformation. Why do we commemorate something that happened almost 500 years ago?

Today, we remember the Reformation for the following reasons...

‘Dating’ An Ungodly Romance

PrintE-mail

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 18 October 2015

Christian youths – even teens – have been following the worldly practice of dating, which is thoroughly unbiblical. Many seem to be totally unaware of the dangers of “dating”. What is biblically wrong about modern “dating”?

What is called “dating” today generally refers to maintaining a romantic relationship with someone of the opposite sex. To an increasing number of youngsters in our society, dating is simply “having fun” with someone of the opposite sex with no strings attached. In Singapore, dating is becoming common among even young teens of secondary schools...

He Will Prosper Us, So Let Us Arise and Build

PrintE-mail

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 11 October 2015

I would like to exhort all of you to be full of faith in God’s goodness and faithfulness, as we find ourselves currently in need of a huge sum of money (more than S$3.5 million) to complete the Church Building Project. Furthermore, the need to attain this sum in less than three month’s time is making many of us very anxious, causing us to think how we can raise such a huge sum. Brethren, I am assured that this is His appointed time for us to believe and see His power to help us. If we remain full of believing prayer, He will work for us. Let those who are directed by the Lord give as He has enabled them. Let all who are burdened for this work pray earnestly....
