Luke 1:46

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Thursday, 14 April 2016

Read: Luke 1:46

Mary was on a visit to her cousin Elisabeth. During their meeting, she erupted in a song, magnifying the Lord. The first line of this song itself states the purpose of her song – "My soul doth magnify the Lord." Hence, this song has come to be known as "Mary's Magnifcat".

Both Mary and Elizabeth were two humble ladies who loved their God wholeheartedly. Their devotion to God was obvious in their salutations and conversation. Their hearts were filled with great joy and thanksgiving to the Lord for the blessings of babies their wombs were carrying...

Proverbs 15:26

Read: Proverbs 15:26

Nothing, even our thought, is hidden to the LORD. Every thought of man is known to Him. The LORD searches our hearts, and discerns our thoughts. In Isaiah 66:18 the LORD said, "For I know their works and their thoughts".

The Gospel writer, Matthew records, "And Jesus knowing their thoughts said, Wherefore think ye evil in your hearts?" (Matt. 9:4). Again Mathew wrote in chapter 12, verse 25 that "Jesus knew their thoughts." Jesus who knew man's thoughts said, "For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders...

2 Corinthians 5:9

Read: 2 Corinthians 5:9

The apostle Paul has been explaining the future glory that awaits all Christians. He also spoke how Christians should bear their bodily afflictions on this earth as they wait for their heavenly abode. He said, "For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven...

Deuteronomy 6:5

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 10 April 2016

Read: Deuteronomy 6:5

Jesus referred to this commandment as the "the first and great commandment" (Matt. 22:37-38). The very first thing we notice here is that the LORD our God asks our love. The Almighty craves the affection of His people. His heart rejoices to see that all whom He has redeemed would love Him. The LORD regards Himself glorified, when His people love Him wholeheartedly.

He commands their love, because He loves them and presents Himself to each one of them as "the LORD thy God". The LORD has revealed Himself as the only true God...

Romans 13:14

Read: Romans 13:14

Paul commands Christians, "put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ." But can we put on a person, like clothing or armour? It was rather a common phrase in the Greek language, metaphorically implying that we should put on the character of the Lord Jesus Christ. Early church father, Chrysostom, remarked, "It is a common phrase that a person has put him on, whom he imitates." In other words, it is a command to Christians to imitate Christ's example and to become like Him...

2 Thessalonians 3:7

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Friday, 08 April 2016

Read: 2 Thessalonians 3:7

The early Christians paid much attention to learning from the apostles. Acts 2:42 records, "And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship". In fact, the early Christians also paid attention to the apostles' conduct. Many of the early Christians, who came from heathen families and societies, were accustomed to immoral and ungodly ways of life. Even those who came from Jewish background needed to shed their hypocritical, legalistic way of life. They knew that the best examples they could pattern their lives after were the lives of the apostles and those who walked after them...

1 John 4:16a

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Thursday, 07 April 2016

Read: 1 John 4:16a

The Apostle John here speaks of God's love as his most cherished experience, and also of all other believers. All true Christians have tasted the love of God, and can speak of its wondrous blessing in their lives in the most charming and confident manner. They do not speak of God's love as a mere philosophical concept or ideology or possibility, but as their most intimate of experiences...

Colossians 1:13

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Wednesday, 06 April 2016

Read: Colossians 1:13

Our salvation is a demonstration of God's matchless, triumphant power. We are now "delivered" from the tyrannical power of Satan and sin by God, the Omnipotent. The Greek word for "delivered" (rhúomai) means "rescued from danger or great peril". If God has not rescued us, we will have remained subjugated forever by satanic tyranny.

We were under "the power of darkness." The word "power" denotes authority or jurisdiction. "Darkness" denotes moral and spiritual ignorance and evil that pervades Satan's domain...

John 1:14b

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Monday, 04 April 2016

Read: John 1:14b

Notice that John did not say "I beheld" but "we beheld." He was incorporating all the apostles and other believing men who were with Christ during His earthly ministry as witnesses of Christ's glory. By appealing to the testimonies of many, John strengthened his claim that Christ is God who came in the flesh.

The Greek word used for "beheld" (theáomai) does not mean simply "to see with physical eye", but to view continually and attentively with contemplation of what is being observed as something unusual in order to interpret it...

Psalms 33:4

Written by Rev (Dr) Prabhudas Koshy Sunday, 03 April 2016

Read: Psalms 33:4

The psalmist began this psalm with a call to praise God. Then he proceeded to give reasons why God is to be praised. The first and foremost reason he gave for the praise of God is that "the word of the LORD is right."

God's Word is absolutely right according to God's own perfect rule of right. If any one were to say that the Word of the LORD is not right, then he is making God a liar. According to God's own perfect standard, His Word is right in all that it says...
