Pastoral Exhortation - Series of 2011

Theme Of 3rd Missionary Conference - "All Nations Shall Worship The LORD"

"All the ends of the world shall remember and turn unto the LORD: and all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before thee" (Psalm 22:27).

We eagerly look forward to the 3rd Missionary Conference which will be held in Ethiopia from Dec 6-11, 2011. God willing, about 45 brethren will be travelling from Singapore to Ethiopia to participate in this much anticipated missionary conference. A group of six brethren will leave as 'advance party' on 2nd December to prepare for the conference, and the rest will leave on 5th December, early in the morning. Let us pray for the Lord's blessings upon all the preparations that are being done for the conference.

The theme of the conference is "All Nations Shall Worship the LORD". The conference speakers are the ordained ministers in our Gethsemane B-P churches, namely Rev Ephrem Chiracho, Rev Reggor Galarpe and myself.

Why this theme? Scripture is abundantly clear that true worship of God forms the basis for global missions. Without true worship, there can be no real Gospel mission. Moreover, the goal of our missions is to bring people from every nation into the worship of our God.

"All the ends of the world shall remember and turn unto the LORD: and all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before thee" (Psalm 22:27).

"The LORD reigneth; let the earth rejoice; let the multitude of isles be glad thereof" (Psalm 97:1).

"Let the people praise thee, O God; let all the people praise thee. O let the nations be glad and sing for joy: for thou shalt judge the people righteously, and govern the nations upon earth. Selah" (Psalm 67:3-4).

The ultimate purpose of all our global mission efforts is the glory of God through the preaching of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. At the same time, we are mindful of the crisis which Christendom is facing these days. There is an unprecedented acceptance of worldly entertainment as part of Christian worship everywhere. This dangerous trend is spreading even to the mission fields.

Hence in this conference, we will pay attention to the Scriptural teaching on worship. For your information, I publish below the various topics (with brief overviews) that will be studied during the conference.

  • 6th Dec
    10am - 11am
  • 1. "Worship Him Only" - Prabhudas Koshy What is worship? Whom should we worship? The Lord alone is to be worshipped. He alone is worthy. Worship is coming before Him to render our service on His terms. Worship is not about pleasing people, but about being fully occupied and engaged with God in singing, praising, paying homage, praying and serving. Worship is a time to ascribe reverence to God through submission of heart and body to Him.
  • 11.30am - 12.30pm
  • 2. "Worship: Our Highest Duty" - Ephrem Chiracho We are created and redeemed to worship God. Genuine Christians are those who "call upon His name" and "serve Him". Our bodies are His temple; and we "are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ" (1 Peter 2:5; cf. Hebrews 13:15).
  • 3pm - 4pm
  • 3. Workshop on "Worship Participation" - Prabhudas Koshy Group study of the Scriptures - Led by Preachers and Elders
  • 7th Dec
    10am - 11am
  • 4. "Worship in Spirit and in Truth" - Prabhudas Koshy John 4:23, 24. Worship is not restricted to any particular race or place. Neither Jews nor Samaritans have the exclusive right to worship. The LORD can be worshipped anywhere, by anyone, but in spirit and in truth.
  • 11.30am - 12.30pm
  • 5. "Worship in the Beauty of Holiness" - Reggor Galarpe 1 Chronicles 16:29 (Psalm 29:9; Psalm 96:9; Isaiah 6). God is thrice holy (Isaiah 6:3); and the worship of Him ought to be a holy and solemn activity. Without holiness, no man can see the Lord (Hebrews 12:14). No holiness, no worship!
  • 3pm - 4pm
  • 6. Workshop on "Congregational/Public Worship" - Prabhudas Koshy Digging into the Scriptures together - "We speaking to God, and God speaking to us." Order of Worship. Who should lead the worship?
  • 8th Dec
    10am - 11am
  • 7. "Worship: Christ-Centred" - Prabhudas Koshy "Worthy is the Lamb" (Revelation 5:12) - is the eternal refrain of the redeemed in heaven. In fact, Jesus was the focus of the OT worship; all its ceremonies, forms and the priesthood were to be the foreshadow of Christ and His atoning work. There are also types and prophecies (1st and 2nd coming) concerning Christ. Now in the New Testament, the Holy Spirit has come to point us to Christ that we may glorify Him... Our Singing (Colossians 3:16), preaching (2 Corinthians 4:5) and ordinances ("In remembrance of me" - 1 Corinthians 11:24-25) are to exalt Christ.
  • 11.30am - 12.30pm
  • 8. "Worshipping in Vain" - Reggor Galarpe Vain worship of His name is prohibited in the Scriptures - Exodus 20:7; Deuteronomy 5:11; Isaiah 1:10-20; 29:13; Ezekiel 33:31; Matthew 15:7-9; 23:27-28; Romans 2:20-24; 2 Timothy 3:5. Explain what constitutes vain worship of God, and how to avoid such a perilous spiritual behaviour.
  • 3pm - 4pm
  • 9. Workshop on "Worship daily, as Individuals and Families" - Prabhudas Koshy Digging into the Scriptures together.
  • 9th Dec
    10am - 11am
  • 10. "Modern Worship Forms and Unscriptural Practices" - Prabhudas Koshy "Traditional worship", "Contemporary worship", "Seeker-friendly worship", "Charismatic Worship", "Culturally contextualized worship" and many more variations of these are prevalent today. How would we know which should be the right form of worship? Are their validity determined by the people? Should it not be regulated by the Scriptures? Should we be concerned about the form of worship?
  • 11.30am - 12.30pm
  • 11. "The Coming Worship of the Antichrist and Satan" - Ephrem Chiracho 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4; Revelation 13:1-9. In these last days, many antichrists are in the world (1 John 2:18), they are deceiving the churches everywhere through counterfeit miracles and false worship (1 Timothy 4:1ff; 2 Timothy 3:13; 2 Thessalonians 2:8-2). It will all culminate in the worship of the Antichrist, which is Satanic worship. The need to engage in worship with discernment. Not all who shout out Jesus' name are worshipping Him!
  • 3pm - 4pm
  • 12. Workshop on "Worshipping with Children" - Prabhudas Koshy Digging into the Scriptures together.
  • 10th Dec
  • City Tour And Fellowship / No meeting

  • 11th Dec
  • Sunday Worship Service
