Proverbs 12:15 reminds us, “The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.

Here in this verse, the main difference between a foolish person and a wise person is mentioned. A fool would not want to listen to good advice given to him, but will only do what he wants to do. He considers and believes what he thinks is always right and better. Warnings and good advice given to him by knowledgeable people are ignored. He will not take to heart any instruction that is different from his own thoughts.

However, a wise person will be happy to hear what knowledgeable people have to say to him. He pays attention to what they say, and corrects his ideas or plans that are wrong. He is willing to be advised. He welcomes good counsels from wise people. He happily accepts and obeys their counsel. He will not be unhappy that he is corrected. He knows that he can avoid bad behaviour and sad consequences if he accepts good advice given to him.

So children, do not be self-willed. Pay attention to good counsels given to you by your parents, teachers, friends, etc. Do not think that everything you feel is good will lead you to happy outcomes. Be quick to accept and obey good counsels, and that will make you a wise child.
