Proverbs 23:24 says, “The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice: and he that begetteth a wise child shall have joy of him.”

The above verse talks about the joy of a father. The reason for the father’s joy is his son who is righteous and wise. A truly wise child lives righteously.

Do you know what it means to be righteous? A righteous person is one whose life is not stained with sin. But the Bible says that “There is none righteous, no, not one” (Romans 3:10). All – even children – have sinned and become unrighteous. So, how to be a righteous child when you have many sins?

removed. Jesus Christ died on the cross to make us righteous by taking away all our sins. If we believe that He died to remove our sins, we become righteous. When we confess our sins to God, we will be cleansed of all our unrighteousness. “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John

Secondly, those who are made righteous by Christ ust watch their words, that they may not sin in their speech. Proverbs 10:11 says, “The mouth of a righteous man is a well of life: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.” The righteous man must make sure that he will not hurt and trouble others with his words. Be kind and courteous in your speech! Be encouraging and comforting with your words! Avoid all rude and bad speech if you are to be a righteous and wise child. Proverbs 10:32 reminds us that “The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable”. In other words, the righteous will not speak offensively.

Thirdly, the righteous person will guard his heart from desiring anything that is evil. Proverbs 11:23 says, “The desire of the righteous is only good”. Children, make sure that you will not desire anything that is displeasing to God. A righteous child will entertain only good thoughts. Proverbs 12:5 says, “The thoughts of the righteous are right”.

When your thoughts are righteous, your actions will also be righteous. This is because our actions are the result of our desires and thoughts. So watch your heart, that your actions may be righteous. As you live righteously, you will be a wise child!
