The book of Proverbs teaches every Christian child how to be wise in his / her ways. In the coming weeks, l will share with you some very significant counsels of Proverbs that can drive away foolishness from your heart and make you a wise child.

The first of the counsels from Proverbs which we want to look at today is taken from Proverbs 10: 1 – “A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother.”

The Bible says very clearly that every child who is careful to bring joy to the parents is a wise child, whereas every child who brings sadness and frustration to the parents is a foolish child. lf you are going to live as a wise child, you must be always mindful not to make your parents troubled or sad. So, you need to be watchful of your mannerism.

Normally, godly parents rejoice only when their children behave well. Bad attitudes and behaviour of the children do not bring joy to the hearts of their parents. So to be wise, one thing you need to do is to make sure that your attitude and actions will bring joy to your parents. If they will trouble your parents, do not continue with those actions. In other words, you must avoid every attitude, word and action that will irritate or sadden your parents’ heart.

God has given you godly parents to cultivate within you wisdom and understanding. Parents are God’s provision for your training. If they are happy with the way you behave, then you are growing wiser. If at any time, your behaviour make your parents troubled, then repent and do not repeat it. lf your actions are not rebuked but commended, then remember to practise them.
