Amother hen is always very concerned about the protection of her chicks when she takes them around to teach them how to scratch and search for food. Very frequently, she will make sure that her little ones are not far from her, and will call them to her side. She knows that her little chicks are very vulnerable to predators, and will always remain on very high alert to detect any danger in the surroundings. As soon as she senses some kind of danger from predators, she will frantically let out a loud call to her chicks, which will then make an instantaneous dash towards her for safety. She will quickly take them under her wings and hide them from the approaching peril. She also keeps the chicks under her wings during the night to keep them warm and safe.

A mother hen’s care is so moving that Jesus used it to describe His own care and concern for the Jewish people of Jerusalem to whom He ministered. However, they were absolutely disinterested in His loving warnings against their sins and of their coming judgment. He said, “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!” (Matthew 23:37).

How foolish it is to reject the love of Jesus that warns us to flee our sins and the coming judgment! How He lovingly came from heaven to be our Saviour! Those who reject His love are like the chicks that would not heed the warning of the hen, and thereby quickly perish. Children, repent of all your sins, so as to come to Jesus and place your faith in His love. Believe on the Lord Jesus that He died to save you from your sins. Then you shall be saved and He will keep you and bring you to heaven.
