Rainbow - II Print E-mail
Written by Prabhudas Koshy
Sunday, 15 January 2017

We learned last week that the rainbow first appeared, according to Genesis 9:12-16, as a sign of God's covenantal promise to Noah that He will never again destroy the whole world by flood. Since that day, people have been able to see it in every part of the world.

Its colours are brilliant and glorious! It is one of the most spectacular light shows observed on earth! People, both children and adults alike, feel excited about this amazing phenomenon. One English poet, Wordsworth, captures our feelings when he wrote

Rainbow - I Print E-mail
Written by Prabhudas Koshy
Sunday, 08 January 2017

One day, when I was a child, I stood looking at a rainbow for a long time until it faded away. Don't you like to watch that multi-coloured arch in the sky? It is wonderful to look at, especially when its brilliant colours are in full array before it becomes dim and vanishes.

In school, you might have learned in your science class that the rainbow is a meteorological phenomenon that appears as a spectrum of light in the sky when the sun shines onto droplets of moisture in the Earth's atmosphere...

Psalm 68:19 “Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation.

Today we have come to church to praise our God. We sing hymns of praise to the Lord, together with all those who love Him. We also give thanks to Him when we pray. If you listen carefully to the prayers offered by the worship leader and by pastor, you will notice that they too praise the Lord's name.

Both children and adults must worship the Lord for the many blessings received from Him. He forgives us our sins; He heals our sicknesses; He answers our prayers; He gives us good health to work and earn a living; He gives us food, etc...

Isaiah 40:8 “The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.

Everything on this earth, no matter how beautiful and glorious it may be, will soon wither and fade away. The things that we have achieved and cherished in life will also vanish from our grip. In other words, nothing of this world endures forever.

All mighty men, who once ruled the world with great power, withered and faded away like the grass and flowers. Those who love and care for us will also soon be gone

Delight to Worship in God’s House Print E-mail
Written by Prabhudas Koshy
Sunday, 11 December 2016

Psalm 122:1 “I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD.

It is the special delight of everyone who loves God to go into the house of the LORD to worship Him. When the day of worship comes, they love to be where God’s people are gathered together. Their hearts rejoice when others tell them it is time to go to the house of the LORD. The psalmist tells us that when he was invited by others to go to the house of the LORD, he was glad. Obviously, he was eagerly waiting to go to the place where they worshipped God. So he accepted the invitation joyfully...

A Sincere, Loving Heart Print E-mail
Written by Prabhudas Koshy

1 Timothy 1:5
Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned.

All of God’s law is intended to teach us to love God and man. It is the will of God concerning all His children that they love Him and their brethren. The kind of love that we ought to have for God and our fellow men should have three characteristics:

Firstly, love must be expressed “out of a pure heart”. True love has no sinful or selfish motives. It will neither harbour evil intentions, nor take advantage of others

Matthew 24:6
And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled:
for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.

In recent years, wars are being fought around the world practically every day. News reports on the internet, television, radio, and in the newspapers present frightening images of war around the world almost daily. According to reports in recent times, more than 10,000 people get killed each year because of wars. Apart from international wars, there are also ongoing civil unrest and anti-government protests that end up in deaths of hundreds of people. Some recent examples would be the Tibetan protest and the Brazilian protests. On top of these

Ephesians 5:11

And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.

Christians are here reminded that they should not participate in the works of darkness. But do you know what the “works of darkness” are?

Firstly, our verse tells us they are “unfruitful”. These are works that we do, which do not benefit our body and soul at all. Activities of sinful people are called “works of darkness”. From Romans 13:12-13, we can know more about works of darkness

In the ancient markets, sparrows were sold at a very low price because people did not consider them important. However, Jesus said that God took notice of every one of the sparrows.

How amazing it is that God cares for even a cheap, insignificant bird

Resist Sinners’ Enticement Print E-mail

Proverbs 1:10
My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not.

Here the Bible warns all the young ones not to be influenced by those who give themselves to doing mischievous and sinful deeds. It is very common for ungodly youths and children to try to influence and invite children from godly homes to join them.

The Bible here uses the word “entice”, which indicates that sinners would attempt to deceive unsuspecting children

Isaiah 55:9

\The heaven is so far away from the earth. No jet plane or rocket or any space shuttle that man has ever made can take him there. No man has ascended from the earth to the highest heaven by himself.

Just as man cannot reach God’s heaven, man cannot fathom God’s thoughts...

A Brief Life of Trouble Print E-mail

Job 14:1-2
Man that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble. He cometh forth like a
flower, and is cut down: he fleeth also as a shadow, and continueth not.

The Bible often teaches us to consider the fact that life is short. Death is real and it can come upon anyone at any time, as God has appointed it (cf. Hebrews 9:27). Not only old folks die, even children also die.

There is nothing to be proud about ourselves and what we have. Whether we be rich or poor, all alike will die. Likewise, the educated and uneducated also die. The brevity of life and certainty of death are real to all

Good Fruit or Evil Fruit Print E-mail

Matthew 7:18
A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit,
neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.

Tesus had warned His disciples that false prophets or false teachers would come to lead them away from the LORD and His truth. They are very dangerous people who care not for the spiritual safety of God’s people. They come to church to take advantage of people for their own gain.

Such false teachers cannot be easily identified because they pretend to be true believers. Jesus pointed out that they would “come to you in sheep’s clothing...

Luke 10:42

Two sisters, Mary and Martha, received Jesus into their home. Both were happy to have Jesus in their house.

However, Martha was “cumbered about much serving”. She was very concerned with attending to Christ and those who had come with Him into her house. She complained to Jesus about her sister Mary, who was sitting at Jesus’ feet listening to Him...

Psalm 41:1
Blessed is he that considereth the poor: the LORD will deliver him in time of trouble.

Just as the above verse indicates, the Bible frequently instructs Christians to care for the poor. Jesus also taught us that we ought to take care of the poor.

Jesus told His followers that they should not show mercy to the poor just “to be seen of men” as some of the Pharisees did...

Jesus: The Only Way to God in Heaven Print E-mail

John 14:6
"Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."

The above words were spoken by the Lord Jesus, while He was speaking to His disciples concerning where He will be going soon after His death on the Cross. He said to them, “In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you” (John 14:2). Soon, the disciple Thomas responded with a question - “Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way...

Philippians 4:6
"Be careful for nothing; but in every thing

God’s Word here teaches us how to overcome our unsettling problems and meet the needs of life through prayer.

Firstly, we are instructed to “Be careful for nothing”. That is an old English way of saying, “Don’t be anxious about anything.” Many things can make us very worried. God does not want us to be troubled
