“And we desire that every one of you do shew the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end.”
These words of exhortation address those who have not been keen to examine themselves concerning their relationship with the Saviour. They are facing the danger of falling back into false doctrines and ungodliness.
The writer of Hebrews wanted those who have been disinterested and sluggish about their faith and salvation, to consider the genuine believers who consistently show enthusiasm and diligence to possess salvation with full assurance and hope. He is telling them, “Brethren, please consider those true believers who carefully live by the Word of God and grow in faith and holiness. My sincerest desire is that you, like them, will show diligence in your spiritual endeavour. You must also have the same full assurance, and persevere to the end with hope. Let none of you be distracted from our ultimate hope of Christ’s return.”
Unfortunately, some who attend the church for a long time remain totally disinterested in spiritual matters. Some of them are not even truly saved; nor are they even bothered by their fatal condition in sin! Dear children, I pray that you will not become careless about your spiritual condition. Be diligent to know the Lord and His Word, and grow in assurance of faith and hope.
