“Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.”
The devil is not only evil, but also very wily. He is always attempting to have an advantage over God’s children with his deceptions, temptations and afflictions. He is a malicious tyrant who will do everything possible to stop Christians from serving God faithfully.
To effectively hold off the “wiles” (evil strategies) of the Devil, God has provided His people with a range of spiritual armour. Later in Ephesians 6:14-18, the whole armour of God is mentioned; it comprises the following: (i) Belt of truth, (ii) Breastplate of righteousness, (iii) Shoes of the gospel, (iv) Shield of faith, (v) Helmet of salvation, (vi) Sword of the spirit, which is the Word of God.
All these weapons mentioned are like the body armour that an ancient soldier would wear when he goes to the battle. Interestingly, the weapons mentioned here provide adequate protection for the whole body except the back. It shows that Christians should never turn their back against the enemy or quit the battle, but they must with courage face the enemy.
If you equip yourself with the armour of God – truth, righteousness, the gospel, faith, salvation, the Word of God – you can overcome the devil’s devices and live a victorious Christian life. So, put on the whole armour of God and stand firm in the Lord!
