“Who (our Lord Jesus Christ) gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father.”
The world around us is evil. It is not just evil; in fact, it is an evil tyrant. The world takes captive chidren, men and women by its evilness.
The world we live in is not a perfect, holy place. It is full of idolatry, false doctrines and unholy ideas. It also promotes ungodly passions and pursuits. It distracts people from spiritual realities with its pleasures, wealth and pride.
The world subdues everyone who is born into it with its powerful temptations of sin. In Ephesians 2:2, we are told that all who “walked according to the course of this world” live “according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience”. When people live worldly, they live disobediently before God.
Our Lord Jesus Christ came to this world to deliver us from the sin of this world that kept us under its monstrous tyranny. Children, Jesus is your Deliverer from the wicked world. Trust and obey Jesus, and you will have salvation and victory over the world.
