“Thou shalt not defraud thy neighbour, neither rob him: the wages of him that is hired shall not abide with thee all night until the morning.”
God prohibits us from doing three things to get for ourselves what rightfully belong to others.
Firstly, He forbids us from using any fraud, lies, falsehoods or deception to take others’ belongings. All kinds of cheating and stealing are forbidden by the Lord. This also means no shoplifting.
Secondly, He forbids us from robbing others by force. He also tells us not to use any kind of threatening, violence or oppression to exploit others.
Thirdly, He forbids us from withholding the pay of those whom we have hired to work for us. When a person is hired for a day to work for us, his wage should be paid in the evening, and it should not be held from him even for a night. In Deuteronomy 24:15, God said, “At his day thou shalt give him his hire, neither shall the sun go down upon it; for he is poor, and setteth his heart upon it: lest he cry against thee unto the LORD, and it be sin unto thee.”
God wants all His children to be honest, kind and helpful. Christians should not engage in any fraudulent activities.
