“He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.”
It was a repeated statement of our Lord Jesus Christ (cf. Matthew 13:9, 43; Mark 4:23; Luke 14:35; Revelation 2:7, 11, 17, 29; 3:6, 13, 22; 13:8-9).
When God gives us an ability, such as a hearing ear, we have a responsibility to use it as He requires. What God enables a man to do, that he ought to do.
Firstly, He, who gave you ears, requires you to ensure that you are a responsible hearer. Having two ears allows you to receive and analyse surrounding sounds. But you must pay attention to all that God wants you to hear. Make sure you take heed to listen. If you are unwilling to listen, then you will miss out learning many important things in life.
Secondly, He, who gave you ears, requires you to hear with understanding. Be not a careless hearer. Listen to God’s Word with an acceptable spirit. Be teachable. Be receptive of all that God instructs you.
Thirdly, He, who gave you ears, requires you to hear His Word in order to apply it in your life. Let what you hear from His Word enter your soul. Make effort to understand God’s Word, and make use of all its counsels. Be diligent to act on all that you hear from God’s Word.
