King David’s Single Most Desire

Psalm 27:4

“One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to inquire in his temple.”

King David’s greatest desire in life is expressed in this verse. He was committed to seek after that desire in his heart. Nothing was more important to him than pursuing that desire. What was King David’s singlemost desire?

David’s greatest desire was to be permanently connected to the house of God – “that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life”. To David, no place in the whole wide world was as endearing as God’s house. His heart always desired the place of worship, which God’s people referred to as “the house of the LORD”.

In fact, he tells us why he was so fond of “the house of the LORD”: firstly, “to behold the beauty of the LORD”, and secondly, “to inquire in his temple”. In other words, King David found great delight in the wonderful presence of God during the times of worship in the house of God. He also found comfort when he sought the Lord in prayer.

Do you cherish the worship of God in His house? Those who sincerely seek the Lord shall be blessed with the beauty of God’s presence.
