“Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.”
Here, doers of God’s commandments are pronounced as “blessed”. This is the last of the seven beatitudes (blessings) pronounced in the Book of Revelation (cf. Rev 1:3; 14:13; 16:15; 19:9; 20:6; 22:7).
All those who trust and follow the Lord Jesus Christ will certainly be led to obey God’s commandments. Those whom Jesus would lead will not be encouraged to live a disobedient life. The Spirit of Christ in all who believe and follow Him shall instruct them to be obedient, thereby causing them to be blessed.
To such, the Lord gives the “right to the tree of life”. The tree of life is located in the capital city of heaven, the New Jerusalem (Rev 22:2). He has given this promise to all who overcome sins and trials to follow Christ – “To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God” (Revelation 2:7). In order that they may have access to the tree of life, they will be granted access to the city through its gates.
Heaven and its enjoyment are exclusively for those who believe and follow the Lord Jesus Christ. Those who reject Christ will remain forever outside New Jerusalem, and end up in the lake of fire (cf. Rev 20:15; 21:8)! Children, follow the Lord Jesus Christ in faith and obedience, that you may inherit heaven and all its wonderful heavenly pleasures.
