Devise Not to Do Evil

Proverbs 24:8

“He that deviseth to do evil shall be called a mischievous person.”

Every one of us tends to imagine and do evil things. The Bible says in Genesis 8:21b that “the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth”. Evil thoughts may come to our heart. As such, it is important that we, with God’s help, avoid continuing in such thoughts and desires of our minds.

We should not sit down and plan how to work out the evil thoughts that come to our minds. Planning and pursuing evil schemes will make a person “mischievous”. It is devilish to plan to do evil. It will lead us to many dangerous and harmful deeds!

Wicked persons constantly think cunningly to commit sin; they do not have righteous hearts. God hates all those who devise to do evil.

So, if an evil thought comes to our mind, we must not let it linger on in our mind. We must tell ourselves that it is evil to pursue the evil thought. Pray for God to cleanse our hearts and purify our thoughts. God’s Word says to us, “Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease to do evil” (Isaiah 1:16).
