2 Corinthians 3:5
“Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God.”
The apostle Paul tells us that none of us has sufficient ability to live our Christian lives and fulfil all the duties of Christian ministry. Whatever we do as Christians is not accomplished by our strength or wisdom, but by the enablement that the Lord gives to us. Even when we make progress in our Christian living and ministry, we must not take credit for the progress.
Let us remember that we are incapable of overcoming on our own the enmity and obstruction that Satan and the world put before us. Our strength is very small to overcome all the challenges we will face.
Though the apostle Paul had earlier wondered: “And who is sufficient for these things?” (2 Corinthians 2:16), he now tells us confidently: “but our sufficiency is of God”. Our God can help us to be overcomers of all the temptations, obstacles and even opposition from Satan and the world. Our individual strength and wisdom may be very small, but we can trust our God to grant us all things sufficiently in order that we may serve Him triumphantly.
