2 Timothy 2:12
“If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us.”
When genuine Christians live for Christ, they may be opposed and even persecuted by the unbelieving world. Truly, in times of such sufferings, we may be pressurised to deny Christ. If we refuse to deny Christ, the world may add more afflictions to force us to forsake our Saviour.
Many Christians in the past, and even in our present times, have suffered many kinds of sufferings. Some Christians were humiliated as false and shameful things were spoken about them. Some of the believers were chased out of their houses by unbelieving relatives. Some became homeless because their houses were burned down by those who hated Christ. Some endured beatings, threatenings, stoning, stabbing, etc. Some were even murdered and became martyrs for Christ!
The Word of God promises eternal rewards for those who suffer for Christ. They shall reign with Christ. All the suffering Christians can be assured that they will not merely sit with Christ, but will reign with Christ. But all those who denied Christ will be rejected by Christ from the eternal honours of heaven.
