“Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.”
Do you know what does the psalmist mean by “snare of the fowler”? The fowler’s snare is a trap laid by a hunter (fowler) to catch a bird. It is often set concealed or hidden from the sight of the bird.
Here the psalmist describes his soul as like a bird that is in danger of being trapped by the evil snares laid by satanic foes. Do you know that Satan is like a fowler, who seeks to trap and destroy many unguarded people? He has thousands of cunning devices to endanger the spiritual life of Christians.
The psalmist also mentions about “noisome pestilence”, which refers to deadly diseases. If anyone can deliver us from deadly pestilences, it is the Lord our God. It does not mean that all those who trust in God will never die of diseases. But rather, He will deliver us from such troubles until our work on earth is done.
We can trust the Lord to keep us from all troubles that seek to prevent us from doing all that God wants us to do. Let us not be afraid, but be of good courage. The Lord is our Protector until we accomplish all that He has assigned to us.
