“Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.”
Concerning the promised Child who would be born, the prophet Isaiah said, “Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end”. It means that His reign as the Prince of Peace shall be endless. One day, when He shall fully establish His kingdom upon the throne of David, peace shall be promoted and extended boundlessly.
Christ, the Child who was born in Bethlehem to be the Saviour, is born in the family of David as his Son. He was born so that we may have peace with God, through His death and resurrection to remove our sins. His peace is given to all who trust in Him. Soon one day, He shall come again and reign upon David’s throne from Jerusalem to rule the earth. He will then be the King of Peace over the whole earth.
The word “peace” here depicts more than just peace; it also denotes prosperity, well-being, justice, etc. His government will be the world’s perfect government ever. Today, most governments of the world’s nations secure their increase through war. Unlike them, His government shall spread through righteousness and peace everywhere without end. None can disrupt or stop this coming reign of Christ on earth because it is predicted that “The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this”. In other words, Christ’s reign of peace is a certainty because the LORD God has set His mind to fulfil it. So, let us look forward with great hope to the coming of Christ, the King.
