The Epistle to the Galatians complements the book of Romans on the salvation theme of “justification by faith alone”. The fickleness and wavering stand of the Galatians, as demonstrated by their turning to another gospel, which is justification by works, set the stage for Paul to contend against erroneous teachings which undermine the pure gospel. In the process, he denounced righteousness through works of the Law. In upholding justification by faith alone and emphasizing the all-sufficiency of Christ’s redemptive work, the Apostle Paul exhorts believers to hold fast to their Christian freedom, which leads to holiness, manifesting good works as a result.
