The Habitation of the Just (Proverbs 3:33)

“T

he curse of the LORD is in the house of the wicked: but he blesseth the habitation of the just” (Prov 3:33). Today, let us look at the phrase “the habitation of the just” and prayerfully examine it.

What does the phrase “the habitation of the just” mean? Assuredly, it refers to a Christian home. It is the dwelling place of a man of God. It is the kind of home that we must desire for ourselves. “The habitation of the just” may not have all the luxurious amenities that big houses have, but it is a wonderful place to live in. Simply because it is a place blessed with spiritual ambience. Here, hymns of praise are sung everyday; intercessory prayers are offered; and the Word of God is read and declared. Living in that home is like experiencing “heaven” on earth. There is peace and joy, and love and happiness. It is far from being a perfect home, but the presence of God brings a noticeable spiritual blessing to it.

Dear brothers, the spiritual care of our family must be our biggest concern. While their physical needs matter to us, we should not allow the cares of this world to distract us. We have a more important calling. God expects us to build a godly home. We must take spiritual leadership. We must call our respective households to worship God every day. We must be alert to their weaknesses and bear their burdens (even rebuke them) when necessary. Some of them may be slow to change but we cannot give up on them. We must pray for them. We must insist on God’s Word to be our rule of faith and practice. We must encourage them to ask God for help, trusting in His grace to walk in His ways. Take heed unto these counsels, and God will bless you. He will transform your household to become “the habitation of the just”. Amen!
