Gethsemane Bible-Presbyterian Church of Ethiopia, Addis Ababa

To date, the Gethsemane B-P Church of Ethiopia (Addis Ababa) has 47 communicant members. Blessed be the name of the Lord, our Saviour, who added these souls to the church. This congregation was started and nurtured until recently by Rev Ephrem Chiracho, who is now serving the Lord in Alem Gena. I have been appointed as the resident preacher of the congregation in Addis Ababa since May 2012. Preacher Imane Dola co-labours with me in the ministry of the church.

By God’s grace and enabling, the various ministries of the church include the following:

Preaching and Teaching Ministry: Besides my preaching of God’s Word during the Lord’s Day worship service, Pr Imane and I take turns to teach topical lessons to the adults through the Adults’ Bible School. We also conduct catechism classes using the 20 lessons of Basic Bible Doctrines written by Rev Dr Prabhudus Koshy. On top of that, I also conduct marital counselling and personal ministry training from time to time.

Our church Bible study is held on Friday evenings (5.30pm–7.00pm). Thus far, we have studied several books such as 1 Corinthians, Genesis, Romans, Galatians, Acts, James, Exodus and currently, the book of Revelation.

Prayer Ministry: Our weekly prayer meeting takes place on Wednesday, comprising two sessions – full-time ministers’ meeting (8.30am–1.00pm) and congregational meeting (5.30pm–7.00pm).

Children’s Ministry: Children are taught Bible lessons regularly during junior worship time while the adults are having their Sunday service. May the Lord grant me wisdom in my preparation to train some assistant teachers to help me in overseeing the children’s ministry.

Youth Ministry: The Youth Fellowship meets twice a month, led by myself and Bro Chernet Sasu. Occasionally, we conduct evangelism and visitation.

Evangelism: Evangelism outreach is done weekly by full-time ministers, and monthly by all members. We have been enabled by the Lord to translate the Gospel tract “An Appointment to Keep”, written by Pastor Koshy, into Amharic and Oromic languages.

As we continue serving the Lord in our respective humble capacities, may the Lord prosper all our weekly church ministries/programmes, and through these, grant spiritual maturity to members of the Addis Ababa congregation, to the glory of His name
