Gethsemane Bible Institute, Ethiopia

Gethsemane Bible Institute in Ethiopia is a crucial global missions arm of the Gethsemane Bible- Presbyterian Church, Singapore. It was set up with the purpose of providing sound biblical, theological and practical training for full-time ministers as well as lay people to equip them for the accomplishment of the Great Commission. The GBI is located in Alem Gena, a town just 18 km from the capital.

The GBI was officially inaugurated during the third missionary conference of Gethsemane B-P Church that was held in Ethiopia. Its facilities were built from the generous and sacrificial giving of God’s people in Gethsemane B-P Church, Singapore, and other likeminded Bible-Presbyterian churches. The Bible Institute includes a chapel (513m2), a college block (700m2 consisting of four classrooms, a library and three offices), a dormitory block (1,100m2 with a capacity for 120 students and four families), and a dining hall (128m2).

Classes commenced on May 9, 2012. Our Pastor, the Rev Dr Prabhudas Koshy, who also taught “Pastoral Theology I”. GBI is now in its second term with two full-time and seven part-time students. Most of the part-time students are lay people who want to enrich themselves with the knowledge of God’s Word in order to be more effective as they render help to the various ministries of the church. Because of our separatist and anti-charismatic stand, many of the evangelical churches are hesitant to send their ministers to our GBI. Yet, we trust God and are praying that those who are called of God will come in God’s appointed time.

We have three instructors, namely Preacher Engida Tefera, (DipTh, FEBC), Deacon Imane Dola, (BTh, ETC), and myself, (MDiv, FEBC). Presently, I am taking half of the day classes and all of the evening classes as my two co-labourers are also overseeing the work in Addis Ababa. We need more faithful labourers for this great work. Pray that God may give us wisdom and strength to feed God’s people and equip faithful ministers for Christ (2 Timothy 2:2). Besides instructors, we also have a secretary, a cleaner and four watchmen serving in the compound. May we all be faithful in our respective duties.
